The population of Connecticut in 1860 was somewhat less than half a million persons, or in exact terms, J udg ing by the number of children enumerated in the school cen sus of January, 1865, the population had increased during the five years subsequent to the national census about per sons - that is to say, about thirteen per cent. - amounting in 1865 to about persons.
