Book excerpt: Federal statutes and Army Regulations require the Army to inventory archaeological sites to determine which sites are eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Geophysical surveys and archaeological excavations were conducted at six historic period sites at Fort Riley, Kansas. Project objectives were to evaluate the NRHP eligibility status of the sites and to assess the contributions of geophysics to that effort. A large-scale resistivity survey of the Army City site, a World War I era entertainment complex, was highly successful. The survey yielded a detailed map of subsurface remains of buildings.
