Book excerpt: Help Save Annie Green is the story of the heroine, Annie Green from her earliest memories to her fortieth birthday. The structure of the novel is very different and the story is told from three voices. The narrator, Annie Green, and Annie Green's subconcious recall during therapy. They do not always agree except for the basic facts. The stories are also not arranged chronologically. Ultimately it is the story of the triumph of faith and acceptance over incredible humiliation, abuse, religious conditioning, and control. It is also a love story between the narrator and Annie Green. A very strange voyage beteen two people from completely different worlds with very different views of their respective worlds. It is really their abilty to love each other that allows Annie Green the freedom and clarity to save herself from her past.
