Early record books may also include brief entries on cases which were settled or discontinued. Record books include docket numbers for each case entered. With the exception of the first volume, individual record books are indexed by plaintiff. In addition, a master index covering the record books of all three Orleans County courts between 1800 and 1899 contains index entries by both plaintiff and defendant (see Series ORCC-002). The supreme court record books covering 1817-1840 include chancery court record entries.
