Book excerpt: Richard of Bordeaux (1932) is a play by "Gordon Daviot", a nom de plume Elizabeth MacKintosh, best known by another of her nom de plumes, Josephine Tey. The play recounts the account of Richard II of England sentimentally, stressing the connection between Richard and his first spouse, Queen Anne of Bohemia. The play was a significant hit in 1933, assuming a critical job in transforming it's executive and driving man John Gielgud into a significant star. Spectators discovered its depiction of medieval characters talking like present-day individuals reviving.
