The statute directed all states to report deaths during arrests to remain eligible for fed. correctional grants. This report provides the number of all arrest-related deaths over a 3-year period by cause of death and characteristics of the deceased. These fatalities include homicides (both those by law enforcement officers and other persons), suicides, alcohol or other drug intoxication deaths, accidental injuries, and fatal medical problems. Also lists the deaths by cause for each state, and details the circumstances surrounding arrest-related deaths. Also resents the number of justifiable homicides by police.
