These patients often present with a myriad of presenting complaints. In the US, there were 137 million Emergency Department (ED) visits in 2015, account- ing for almost 14% of all hospital visits [1]. Multiple concerns have been brought up by patients. For example, long waiting times is one of the known factors contributing to decreased patient satisfaction in the ED [2,3]. In the UK, one study has shown that the median waiting time for decision making in the ED between April 2008 and April 2013 was almost 3 h, with up to 10% having wait times of more than 4 h [4]. Along with other factors, another study has shown that this had led to as much as 7.4% of patients leaving the ED without receiving treatment [5]. Recent advancements in technology has brought into the field a suite of tools, with great potential of improving processes and overall quality of healthcare in EM. With further evidence presented, it is believed that AI can seek to improve patient experiences in the ED. In this Book , we aim to study the evidence to support the potential of AI in EM.
