Book excerpt: Bush's Fourth Year Post War Iraq Governance and Re-election The book describes the false premises on which Bush's pre-emptive war on Iraq was "rationalized," then debunked by critics, WMD seekers, authors, September 11th Commission and the Senate Committee on Intelligence. Continuing budget deficits with more of the same, chaotic costly guerrilla war in Iraq and prisoner abuse, new post war interim government in place, continuing search for bin Laden and first democratic elections in Afghanistan, compensation for September 11th victims and implementation of homeland defenses are discussed in the first six chapters. Chapters 7 13 discuss Bush's abysmal "aid and abet" approach to illegal immigration, unchanged legal immigration, one-sided free trade policies with trade red ink approaching $600 billion annually and more of same likely with FTAA and CAPTA, minimal foreign policy gains sans involvement of EU nations in Iraq or peace between Israel and the PLO, and withdrawal of troops from Iraq by Spain, Honduras and the Philippines. In addition, dumb downing of education continues, partial privatization of Social Security, sanctity of marriage, expansions of EU and NATO, Bush re-election v. hapless Kerry and author's closing comments and suggestions are described.
