Book excerpt: Decentralized Finance and asset tokenization are challenging and transforming traditional financial norms. This study investigates their impacts on traditional financial systems, financial inclusion, and consumer empowerment. It was done via a literature review and six interviews with industry experts representing both traditional institutionsand DeFi representatives. The empirical data was analyzed using the Qualitative Content Analysis based on Mayring. Findings indicate that DeFi introduces openness, transparency, and autonomy to financial activities. Asset tokenization further enhances accessibility by enabling fractional ownership. The influence on traditional financial institutions ranges from optimization opportunities to regulatory challenges. A shift in power from institutions to consumers is driven by financial self-sovereignty. Financial inclusion and empowerment are central outcomes. User experience and interoperability must be improved to reach a wider adoption. This thesis emphasizes the need for a balance between innovation and regulation for sustainable progress in the financial sector.
