Book excerpt: The State of California's Air Resources Board has implemented a network for monitoring the levels of potentially toxic air contaminants (TACs) at 20 population centers throughout the state. The monitoring is designed to support a program to identify the presence of any TACs that are at levels which would require the adoption of emission control regulations. The network monitors concentrations of eleven organic gases and eight particulate metals. Pesticides are also monitored at various locations on an intermittent basis.
