Book excerpt: What would you do if preserving the status quo came at the price of American lives? Jes Spenser is an ex-cop who has chosen to work overseas as a spy, observing and reporting to help keep U.S. troops safe. But the day comes when he knows the country would be better served were he a terrorist fighter in the black ops war. When Spenser discovers that an attack on U.S. soil is imminent, he follows the intel all the way to China. But as he informs the powers that be, he is told that the attack will be allowed to take place-so the masses can be reminded of the ongoing terror threat and so the funding can continue. As Spenser voices his objections, he unknowingly makes himself a target for elimination. Now he and a small team of renegade operatives decide to track down and neutralize the terrorist cell. But with danger coming from both sides, will anyone survive?James Shelley grew up in Michigan, where he engaged in a twenty-four-year police career in the Lansing area, with four years spent overseas as an International Police Officer, investigator, and field trainer in Kosovo. He engaged in one security mission in Afghanistan and was a force protection officer for three years, with assignments in Germany, Thailand, and Kuwait. For the past three years, he has been in Beijing, China, living, teaching, consulting, and writing. His next book is a sequel, Fateful Ops 2: The Pursuit of Terror.Publisher's website: http: //www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/FatefulOps.html
