Book excerpt: Climate change and the depletion of fossil fuel resources have led to a significant increase in the development of renewable energy technologies. Governments, as opposed to the private sector, should be primarily responsible for investing in renewable energy technology. This argument has broad support. This study seeks to examine how geopolitical and political stability affects government spending on renewable energy research and development in developed nations. To accomplish this objective, we will employ the panel autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) technique. According to the empirical findings, a politically stable climate is required to incentivize governments to invest in renewable energy research and development. Furthermore, increased geopolitical tensions would motivate governments to engage in renewable energy research and development to minimize their dependency on external energy providers.
