Book excerpt: In this speech, Governor Kean addresses the seeming 'war' between New York and New Jersey, before the members of the New York City Partnership. He insists that he and then New York Governor, Cuomo have held many private summit meetings without any tension. He mentions the earlier Urban Development Action Grants received in the past by both states and they may be eliminated by the Federal Government in cost-saving strategies. Another subject brought to the attention of the audience was a survey entitled "Crossing the Hudson: a survey of New York manufacturers who have moved to New Jersey." To invet in tomorrow meant to invest in technology and Governor Kean addresses strategies for making both states more attractive to high technology firms. He lists these regional factors as those that give New York and New Jersey an advantage in attracting technology firms: 1) a well-educated workforce, 2) a stimulating cultural environment, 3) well-maintained infrastructure, 4) safe environment and an affluent market of potential customers. Governor Kean speaks about New York and New Jersey working together to create positive results for both states.
