For this reason, SLAM has been one of the main research topics in robotics, especially during the last fifteen years. While the structure of the problem is today well known, there are still many open problems, particularly when working in outdoor environments. We presented here some of the latest SLAM algorithms that address the problem of localisation and mapping in large outdoor areas.
